I’m a learner first and an educator second, undaunted in my work by the unknown. I find inspiration in educators who are not afraid to work in uncharted territory, therefore that is the theme of my teaching style.
I am a teacher leader.
I aspire to be outstanding.
My philosophy as a teacher leader directly correlates with being outstanding when working with educators on behalf of their students. Students see not only the experiences offered to them but also witness how the adults teaching them interact and respond. When working with students alongside other teachers, I model passion; passion for innovation; passion for working out of the box; passion for creating uncharted opportunities. Being outstanding is to be an observer, a thinker, a listener, and a risk taker. Outstanding is to be confident and graceful enough to learn from failure, to be thirsty for knowledge, moldable, patient, and never satisfied with good enough. I believe it is important to model these qualities for both educators and for students, encouraging them to try whatever inspires them and help them know that they are supported in their efforts and risk taking. I want educators to realize that giving students a voice to make choices about their education is invaluable in teaching them to think critically, to empower them, and recover from failures. In an indirect way, being outstanding for students also includes seeking out a dynamic professional learning community; intentionally building a network of others with like or similar mindsets. The intent is to gain new perspectives, gather resources, share experiences and deliberately challenge the philosophies of others. Skills gained from such learning communities can be realized and enjoyed by educators and also benefit students.
